Living Machine, Science and Environmental Education

The Saint George School, together with a local University has been developing a project which purpose is to create alternative scenarios for science and environmental education teaching.
“Living Machine, Educative multi-level and multi-purpose module for Science teaching” is the name of the project. It is based on the principles of eco-design and the aim is to formulate a methodology for science teaching.

The group our institution selected to develop the project is third graders; having up to the moment significant results in both teaching and learning processes.  It has become an alternative approach in science teaching, due to the creation of outdoor scenarios where students put in practice their previous knowledge about topics and concepts related to water quality, wetland functions in the ecological balance, living things interactions, importance of biotic factors in ecosystems and others.

Finally, the project seeks to replicate the experience in other schools of the City and so contribute to alternative science and environmental education processes.
